FOODSAFE Level 1 is a food handling, sanitation and work safety course designed for front line food service workers such as cooks, servers, bussers, dishwashers, and deli workers.
Every food service operator, and at least one employee on every shift, must hold a FOODSAFE Level 1 certificate, or certificate from a course recognized as equivalent to FOODSAFE.
The course covers important food safety and worker safety information including foodborne illness, receiving and storing food, preparing food, serving food, cleaning and sanitizing.

# Introduction to Tourism and Cultural Tourism in BC

Tourism plays a vital role in the growth of communities across British Columbia – and there’s a place for you in it.
This course offers an inspiring introduction to the tourism industry in BC, designed especially for Indigenous individuals interested in exploring career paths, business opportunities, or community involvement in tourism. You’ll gain practical knowledge of how the industry is organized and learn about the key sectors that make up this dynamic and growing field.'
This training is ideal for Indigenous individuals who are curious about careers, business opportunities, or community roles in tourism. It’s a great starting point for anyone interested in joining BC’s vibrant visitor economy.

3. Transportation and infrastructure sector
4. Adventure and ecotourism
5. Cultural interpretation and Indigenous experiences

**Session Details**
This is a 10-day micro-credential course offered through the University of Northern British Columbia. The course runs Monday to Friday, from October 20 to 31, 2025. Each day begins at 9:00 AM PST with three hours in a virtual classroom, followed by afternoon time for independent work on assignments.
Certification is based on attendance, participation, and the completion of all assignments. Attendance is mandatory. To earn the micro-credential, participants must actively contribute during class sessions and submit all Mission Possible assignments.
**Value: $1500.00**
Due to the high cost and time commitment of this program, ITBC is accepting applications of interest to review before approving the funds.

Introduction to Tourism and Cultural Tourism in BC

Leadership for Hospitality Professionals

Hazardous products can cause serious injury or illness if not handled properly – even in tourism and hospitality settings. From cleaning supplies in hotels and lodges to pool chemicals at resorts, fuel for tour boats, or maintenance products in cultural centres, hazardous materials are more common than you might think. The Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) is Canada’s national standard for sharing information about these risks. This essential training gives tourism professionals the knowledge to stay safe, protect guests, and meet legal workplace safety requirements.
**What You’ll Take Away**

* A clear understanding of WHMIS and why it matters
* The ability to recognize hazardous materials and their associated risks
* Knowledge of key responsibilities for workers and employers
* How to read and interpret WHMIS labels and pictograms
* How to use Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) to stay informed and safe

WHMIS

Navigating Cultural Diversity in the Workplace

Joint health & safety committees (JHSC) bring workers and employers together to create safer workplaces. This training equips new committee members and worker health & safety representatives with the skills and knowledge needed to fulfill their responsibilities. By completing this course, you’ll meet the minimum 8-hour training requirement set out in the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation (Section 3.27).
**What You’ll Take Away**

* Understand the roles, duties, and functions of JHSC members.
    * Learn how to conduct regular workplace safety inspections
    * Know how to participate in incident investigations
    * Understand your responsibilities in cases of unsafe work refusals
    * Gain tools to evaluate the effectiveness of your committee

Focused on tourism, this course is primarily designed for new joint health & safety committee members, both employer and worker representatives.
