Joint Health & Safety Committee Training

Joint health & safety committees (JHSC) bring workers and employers together to create safer workplaces. This training equips new committee members and worker health & safety representatives with the skills and knowledge needed to fulfill their responsibilities. By completing this course, you’ll meet the minimum 8-hour training requirement set out in the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation (Section 3.27). • Understand the roles, duties, and functions of JHSC members.
  • Learn how to conduct regular workplace safety inspections
  • Know how to participate in incident investigations
  • Understand your responsibilities in cases of unsafe work refusals
  • Gain tools to evaluate the effectiveness of your committee

Who Should Attend? Focused on tourism, this course is primarily designed for new joint health & safety committee members, both employer and worker representatives. Existing committee members or worker health & safety representatives who are looking for a refresher on their responsibilities and duties may also benefit from taking this course. Session Details This is an online, self-paced course you can take on your own schedule. It takes about 8 hours to complete, and you can work through it in a way that fits your life and commitments. Eligibility Indigenous Tourism BC will cover the full costs of this training for eligible participants:

• Indigenous peoples (First Nations, Inuit, Metis) residing in BC
• Indigenous-owned tourism businesses (51%+ Indigenous ownership), and employees of
• First Nations-owned tourism businesses (51%+ First Nations ownership), and employees of
• First Nations Communities in BC

Prerequisites There are no prerequisites – just a willingness to learn and grow in the health & safety space.
